Our van
will be ready to pick you up at Catania Airport or train station and
transfer you to a 3 stars Hotel in Nicolosi where
the tour starts. The town rests at 700 mts on the Southern slopes of the
Etna Volcano. Before your first typical Sicilian dinner we give you route
maps and a briefing about the tour.
On the first day, riding on the old road along
the Simeto River, you get to Bronte. A first pause is in Adrano
for a stroll in the old town and a visit to the Norman Castle. The
quiet road sneaks alongside the river amidst odd shaped, black lavic
formations covered with multicolor flowers. A photo opportunity not to
be missed is the Saracen Bridge built in the XII century to ease
the transit of the wheat convoys from the great plains to the higher
towns of the Etna. As you get closer to Bronte the sides of the road are
dominated by trees sprouting out of rocks. Those are the Pistachios
trees for which Bronte is world famous. The hotel, set in the
magnificent scenario of the wildest side of the Volcano, is at the
summit of a 7k climb that our van is ready to spare you.

The
next day you descend into Bronte where you pause for a visit to the old
town. Next stop is in Maniace where the Admiral Nelson's
family settled in 1800. With its Castle, its Abbey and the well cared
lawns this is a curious angle of old Britain transferred in Sicilia.
After the visit a delicious lunch will be provided by the local baker. After lunch an easy climb takes you to Randazzo.
Randazzo is an important and rich town famous also to be the set of the Cavalleria
Rusticana opera. This is also excellent wine country so we
provide you a wine taste with local specialties snacks at a local producer.
Next the road takes you in the charming medieval town of Castiglione
di Sicilia. The rest of the ride is an easy spin through the Alcantara River
Gorges all the way
to the Ionian coast. You stay for 2 nights in the beach
resort of Giardini Naxos, home of most ancient Greek
settlement in Sicilia (738 BC).

The next ride is a loop starting and ending in Giardini Naxos. Only a few miles and a little climb away you can't miss a visit to
Taormina. For its position and gorgeous landscape and for the
richness of its historical landmarks Taormina is one of the most
traveled tourist attractions in Italy. If you are also looking to do
some shopping the old town hosts the best selections of stores you can
find anywhere. The short ride leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the
beach just across the street from the hotel in Giardini Naxos.
The last ride is all set along the Ionian coast. You ride in the Natural
Marine Reserves of Fiumefreddo and La Timpa. A short detour inland takes
you to Acireale. Acireale is one of the several towns of Eastern Sicilia
that was destroyed by the tremendous earthquake of 1693. The towns were
all rebuilt in less than 10 years in an astonishing baroque style. All
of those towns are now Unesco Heritage. After lunch you ride back
to the Coast of Cyclops up to the charming sea resort of Acitrezza. Dinner
on the last day it's not included but we give you suggestion for a good
seafood restaurant in town.
